Pinterest has done it again. Who knew that you can use 2 things that you currently have in your pantry and get out those nasty kid stains on the carpet.
2 cups Hydrogen Peroxide and 1/4 cup baking soda. Right in to a squeeze bottle. Voila! Stain removing magic.
I had just finished vacuuming and I was really annoyed that the Capri-Sun spill that I had diligently soaked up with hot water and vinegar was still getting darker and darker. Last week I considered just rearranging the furniture. This week, I took to Pinterest to find a solution.
That is amazing!!! Pay no attention to the dark spots still lingering near the couch. They are now also long gone.
I gave the spot a generous squirt of remover and rubbed and scrubbed it with my rag. Then I went over it with the vacuum to dry it a bit. Voila. Really…..it felt like magic. And now I don’t have to move the furniture.

ReplyDeleteI love that it's all natural. I also mix up big batches of baking soda and lavender (that I've dried) to sprinkle on carpets, then, vacuum up. Who needs Fabreze!! XOXO
ReplyDeleteEven though baking soda and hydrogen Peroxide are excellent natural stain removers for carpets and other fabrics throughout your house - I've been recommending this to my customers for years - you have to be very careful with putting down "big batches" of baking soda. Much - not all - of the baking soda you put down binds to your carpet fibers where it can not be removed by simply vacuuming. This baking soda residue works like a magnet to dirt and, as a result, your carpets will dirty up quickly. Causing you to have to call a professional cleaner much soon - and much more often than you normally would.

This is the best hint ever. I've got one little spot in our spare room that just glares at me every time I walk in the room. I will try this formula and see if it works. Thanks for sharing, as I don't have pinterst.
ReplyDeleteGreat solution. I'm interested more in knowing if the spot comes back. All the carpet cleaner and spot solutions I've tried seem to temporarily remove the spots, but then a few weeks later they resurface. Let us know---thanks.
ReplyDeleteThe reason they resurface is because the stain has gone through the carpet to the underlay. And as you walk on it the spot reappears.
DeleteAngie, I will post again in a few weeks and let you know the results. Lots of carpet cleaners leave a sticky residue that then attracts dirt and dust and makes the spot re-appear. I will let you know how it goes for me. :)

ReplyDeleteCool! I’ve also learned a lot from Pinterest. It’s sure to give you anything household-related. :D Anyway, I’ve tried this solution before. I’m glad it still has the same effect. And what’s tempting about settling with this alternative is that it’s cheap. But that doesn’t take away anything from its effectiveness either.

ReplyDeleteAnother much easier solution is Tilex without bleach. It takes the spots right up and you don't have to mix anything or find a spray bottle!!!!! Just make sure it's the bleach free version or you will have a different colored spot to look at!
